Summer Time!
Summer has made its presence known this year! With the recent heat wave starting to abate we can enjoy summer again.
Seasons bring change. What is summer like for you this year? Are you juggling children off from school and full-time work? Are you escaping work for a much needed vacation, or are you covering while others are off on vacation?
Whatever this summer holds for you, hopefully there is some relaxation time in there somewhere!
For some of our members there is a very big change happening now. We have a new class of graduates who are spreading out across Los Angeles and beyond starting their careers! Hopefully they are feeling that residency prepared them well. Do you recall when you started your first job as an attending? I felt well prepared by my residency training, but there is nothing quite like those first few months. On your own… with lots of patients, managing electronic health records…Am I coding correctly? I’ve never seen that before…
Do you recall when you finally felt you could take a breath, when the return visits increase and you start seeing your own patients back? I look at my clinic days now, and although it is still a whirlwind, it is filled with familiar patients, my patients. I get to practice true longitudinal family medicine and it’s everything I hoped it would be when I started out on this journey.
Rebecca Bertin, our LAAFP president along with the executive committee want to provide an opportunity to support our new attendings. We are planning an event in late September- early October…watch for your email invitation with all the details.
If you are a new graduate, join us for an opportunity to speak with other recent graduates going through the same process. All other members, join us, share your current job details, triumphs and difficulties. We’re in this together. Let’s surround our new grads with our warmth this fall. We’re Family Medicine Fierce!
