President Kevin Rossi, MD, called the meeting to order. Twenty-nine members and guests were in attendance. Individual introductions were made. All names have been placed on record.
The first order of business was to review the minutes of the March 13, 2016, Breakfast Caucus Meeting in Sacramento. The minutes were approved as printed in the May 12th Agenda. The January – April 2016 Treasurer’s Report was also approved as printed in the Agenda.
There were no standing committee or board of directors’ reports; however, there were positive comments regarding the good turnout of All Member Advocacy Meeting and the positive flavor of that meeting.
Members were invited to submit their names as volunteers for one of the AAFP Commissions and Committees (Phone: 800/274-2237), as well as the CAFP Committees (Phone: 415/345-8667). Instructions on how to nominate colleagues for the CAFP Foundation Awards are found on the CAFP website.
The meeting was adjourned.
Special guest, Kavita Narayan, Santa Clara County Counsel, began an honest conversation on the controversy surrounding the increased number of opioid prescriptions written for chronic pain in the United States. There are no studies on the efficacy of long-term use, but the evidence presented by testimonials from our members indicated widespread patient addiction and extreme difficulty reducing patients’ dependency.
