LAAFP Breakfast Caucus | The Citizen Hotel, Sacramento | March 11, 2018
President Rebecca Bertin, MD, called the meeting to order. Twenty-six members and guests were in attendance. All names have been placed on record.
Dr. Bertin asked Dr. Shannon Connolly to come forward to receive her 2017 President’s plaque. Dr. Bertin expressed gratefulness from our members for Dr. Connolly’s leadership in 2017.
A motion was received and seconded to accept the minutes of the November 16, 2017, Executive Board and Members Meeting as printed in the January Newsletter and in the Agenda. The minutes were unanimously approved.
A motion was received and seconded to accept the 2017 Financial Recap as printed in the Agenda and presented by Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Monique George, in preparation for budgetary planning. The report was unanimously approved as printed.
Dr. Bertin introduced the Budget Committee Report, offering explanations regarding line items that had increased. The emphasis of the 2018 budget was to support special efforts to offer smaller local events and to retain people who graduate from residency as members. She recommended that the members adopt the 2018 Proposed Budget (also printed in the Agenda). Her motion was received, seconded and unanimously approved.
A motion was received and seconded to accept the January-February 2018 Treasurer’s Report as printed in the Agenda and presented by Dr. Monique George. The motion was unanimously approved.
The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing the AMAM Resolutions as published on the CAFP website. Resolutions A-01-18, A-02-18; and A-04-18 through A-09-18 provided good discussion and, since none of these resolutions were being put to a vote at this time, a variety of representatives volunteered to address any LAAFP concerns or recommendations before the CAFP Board of Directors at the closing session of the AMAM. Resolution A-03-18 “Political Resources to Help Family Physician Champions Win Elections” (which would increase the CAFP dues to $24 per active member) was discussed at length. A voice of caution was expressed due to the need for members to understand what standards would be used to evaluate said “Champions.” With this caution being presented to the Board of Directors, a recommendation was made and approved that the LAAFP endorse the resolution.
The meeting was adjourned.
