Happy Spring from LAAFP!

It was great to see so many of you at CAFP’s All Member Advocacy Meeting last month in Sacramento. We had a lively discussion about the proposed dues increase to strengthen our political voice in California, as well as a broad range of topics from physician wellness to social determinants of health to considering our environmental impact. The CAFP Board will be discussing the resolutions presented at AMAM at their meeting in Monterey next week, and updates will be posted on the CAFP website throughout the year. As this legislative cycle picks up, CAFP will also be discussing and taking positions on many of the proposed bills the California legislature. If you’re not already receiving CAFP’s Legislative Updates, you can sign up to be a Key Contact here: http://www.familydocs.org/advocacy/key-contact

One of the things we discussed at our LAAFP meeting in Sacramento was the Budget Committee’s decision to allot more of our funds for local events this year, in an effort to provide more opportunities for our members to connect locally. If you have ideas for an LAAFP member event in your area, we would love to hear from you!

We are excited to host a CME event focused on updates to opioid prescribing recommendations in June. As the opioid epidemic becomes increasingly complicated and continues to gain attention in the media, I look forward to this educational opportunity. Helping patients navigate the complex journey associated with chronic opioid use can be tricky, and I’m always grateful for opportunities to take a step back and learn new ways to approach these conversations. Please RSVP above!

Finally, don’t forget to keep sharing your FM stories with CAFP to mark our state chapter’s 70th anniversary. You can find stories and more information here: http://www.familydocs.org/cafp70
