The meeting was called to order by Chapter President, Stacey Ludwig. Also present were 42 members and the Executive Director.
President Ludwig opened the meeting by acknowledging the significant stressors currently facing family physicians and their patients. She emphasized the importance of meetings like this for physician well-being.
LAAFP Vice President Dr. Peony Khoo was recognized for her initiative in securing resources for the local family physician community, including her work on recent grants.
The LA Safe Haven Grant was highlighted for its role in supporting medication abortion mentorship programs. The LAAFP also received an ABFM grant for the residency network, which provides funding over three years to invest in residencies and encourage physicians to stay in family medicine.
Dr. Hector Flores from LACMA, discussed the impact of the record state deficit and federal cuts from H.R. 1, which could lead to a $20 billion loss in federal healthcare matches by 2027. He cited the National Academy of Medicine’s findings that high-quality primary care can save 20% to 30% of total healthcare dollars, making primary care a significant contributor to cost savings statewide.
Secretary Treasurer, Dr. Michelle Crespo reported on the Treasurer’s Report for January – April 2026. Financial highlights included the successful funding of 10 scholarship recipients for the All Member Advocacy Meeting (AMAM). Dr. Ludwig called for a motion to approve the report and the minutes from the previous meeting. The motions were seconded, and approved by the members present.
Dr. Ludwig made a call for nominations from the floor for AMAM delegates; Dr. Park was nominated for the role. Also Dr. Amanda d’Almeida was nominated for the vacancy in the Executive Committee as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.
